Prada has held catwalks in two different fashion capitals for its SS22 – Emirates Woman collection
To compensate for a year of pandemic, Prada organized not one but two parades in the fashion capitals, Milan and Shanghai, to present its spring / summer 2022 collection.
The show’s duality brought a refreshing element to the catwalk this season. It was staged simultaneously at the Deposito de la Fondazione Prada, in Milan and at the Bund 1, in Shanghai.
Freedom of expression was a key part of the show. The concept of stripped back clothing was at the helm of its theme, with satin miniskirts and couture silk pieces dominating the runway. Infusing aspects of interlocking dress up into each look, the styles have been targeted to focus on a new age audience.
By adapting to nonconformist principles, the theme of the parade was “a seduction by reduction” with models reduced to the essential. The elegant evening dress was seen in a whole new light, taking inspiration from corsets.
With fitted pieces for an unconstrained wardrobe, evening wear has been showcased with an experienced vocabulary that negates the traditional connotations of restrictions. By reducing the clothes to their simplest form, the comfort of WFH clothing was showcased on the catwalk, with the benefit of Prada, of course.
Being the first in-person show since Raf Simons joined Miuccia Prada as co-creative director of the Italian Maison, it has surely created a sense of excitement among his audience.
Keeping in mind the reality of travel restrictions, the synchronized concept was introduced to bring together two groups of people from both sides of the world in this socially distant world.
