Weehawken author publishes new romance novel ‘The Dream Room’
Joanne Hoersch is best known as the Resident Playwright of Hudson Theater Works, a professional theater company based in Weehawken. But when the pandemic hit and theaters were closed, she decided to turn her talents to fiction, particularly romance.
“I needed to keep my creativity alive. It seemed to me more precious than ever. Writing a romance novel relieved the horror that was happening all around us, an alternate universe of happy endings.
The result was The Dream Room, which she wrote under the pseudonym Charlotte Glass. “It’s about turning tragedy into a form of intimacy, the power of the imagination and, of course, not realizing where true love lies, until you almost lose it.”
As for the book’s title room, all it will say is “read it and find out!”
Ms. Hoersch was, at various times in her life, a model, actress, director, twice recipient of grants from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a Woolrich Fellowship from Columbia University and a Playboy Bunny . .
The experience of working as the Playboy Bunny inspired his play “Bunnies,” which was produced by Hudson Theater Works in October 2021. NJArts called it “a compelling drama. [that] offers a passionate theatrical evening.
She’s been hard at work on the sequel to “The Dream Room,” which will be titled “Glorious,” and is slated for release in July.

I am a mother of two, small business owner and hobby farmer. I just don’t have the time I would like to read but I couldn’t stop reading The Dream Room. On each occasion, I had to read even a few paragraphs: washing the dishes with soapy hands, preparing the laundry, turning the pages and turning the clothes the right way round. The characters were so well developed that I fell in love with all the secondary characters as well as the main ones and I was disgusted by the antagonist. Kudos to Ms. Glass for such an original story. It was nice to read something where I wasn’t sure how and where we were going. I look forward to reading your next book!
5.0 out of 5 stars A really good romance novel

As someone who didn’t place much importance on the romance novel genre, I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this book. Not only is it well written, but it’s a page turner: I would have read it in one go if I hadn’t had to do anything else; but I rushed to read the rest the next day. The characters are compelling; the setting – New York City – the perfect backdrop for a story as compelling as this; and the overall message is both progressive and romantic; not an easy balance exercise to perform. But this author definitely pulls it off with aplomb.
